My latest design offering to the Black Cowgirl camp. Ben wanted to use this “masonic wizard” for a t-shirt design and asked me to help. I wanted to enhance it a bit, so I drew up the “spooky shape”. It literally has zero meaning, but looks the part enough to house an illustration such as this. Gives the shirt some pop overall.

Ben and I have all always been into conspiracy theories (Masons, New World Order, Black helicopters) to a certain extend. Never quite fully believing them, but entertained never-the-less. My dad at one point (during my high school years) had underground conspiracy theory cassette tapes that we would listen too. We still at times joke about them and so this design is more or less is a physical result of an on going joke, possibly at my dad’s expense. Sorry dad.

Big day for my friends in Black Cowgirl! Their new album (double EP) is officially out today. They just wrapped up a weekend mini tour with The Company Band and I believe they should have the double LP vinyl in their hands shortly (via Bilocation Records). I was lucky enough to lay this album out for Ben and the guys. I get so immersed in corporate design, that it’s nice to work on a project that has a more DIY atheistic behind it. Reminding myself why I got into design to begin with. So if you feel at all obliged, head over to iTunes and preview the solid tunes they produce… then instead of clicking download, go to their Big Cartel merch page and order a CD or LP or both and support the band (and my handy word) directly. Apple is making enough on iPads, they won’t miss their cut. Congrats fellas!

Wrapped up this fun little sticker project I snuck in between some behemoth projects. Wanted to do something a little more exciting than a glorified address label. Dave (I’m not talking in third person either) plans on placing these on equipment he repairs. Should be eye catching enough to hopefully grab some new business or at least remind the owner where they originally had their equipment repaired.

A couple of friends and I headed west to Pittsburg to see Earth live at the Historical Carnegie Library. The plan was to leave Lancaster County around 11AM Saturday and return the next morning around 4AM. Thinking back I had little to no faith we would be able to pull this schedule off without a roadside ‘park n’ snooze’ or grabbing a hotel room alone the line. Not only did we, but rather impressively if I don’t say so myself.

Got out there around 4:30, saw a minor accident, found the venue, noted the venue’s less than desirable location, hit Primanti Bros for some sandwich gluttony, were called ‘powerful boys’ in a lovely russian accent, visited a less than impressive record store (Mind Cure Records), and ended the day seeing Onodrim, The Body w/ The Assembly of Light Choir, O Paon, and finally Earth.

Overall a very good show. Though the biggest let down, and the one thing I was really looking forward to seeing was The Body w/ Assembly of Light Choir. The women of AoLC had spectacular voices and performed about 15 minutes or so on their own. For the second part of the set, they were joined by the 2 piece Rhode Island band The Body. I was hoping for big things, but sadly it seemed like the 2 groups never met up until they took the stage together and the pairing was awkward and forced. The choir stood there watching the 2 guys perform a couple of muddy songs. After that poor showing was over, they joined forces only to have the The Body drown out any sort of melody the choir was trying to overlay. I will say at moments they did hit a stride but it didn’t last long. The whole paring seemed unrealized and butchered. I think something could have been there if conceptualized correctly. Going in O Paon was probably the artist I was least looking forward to seeing, however she put on a great set. Beautiful voice and her ability to layer vocals and guitar was impressive. Earth was solid as always. This was my first time seeing the ‘Dylan and the Girls’ lineup. They played a solid set which mostly featured songs from Angels of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1, though they broke out a song from Angels of Darkness, Demons Of Light 2, played The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull, and a selection from Pentastar - Peace In Mississippi. Overall a solid set and show.

We left to the library to find a raging Rave across the street at one of the rowhouses. I find that sub-culture to be lacking in so many areas. Mainly in the mirror dept. We hit the road around 12:30 made a pit stop… let me just say here, 5 Hour Energy may work… but you would have to hold me down to ever get another drop of that down my gullet. Taste as if someone smashed up a pack of smarties, added water, and arsenic for good measure. Terrible, horrible stuff, that I’ll probably developed a growth from, but sadly it worked and kept me awake for the next 7 hours.

Just received the new KEN Mode LP early last week (June 1st). I placed the pre-order on February 12th. Do the math, but that was a bit of gap in time. I can only imagine the nightmare Init Records had on their hands dealing with the pressing plant that screwed up 3 or so pressings to the point where they felt the product was below their quality standards to ship. So I would like to actually thank Init for the wait and quality assurance, rather than knocking them. Just loose the plants contact info for the next record…
